Video Surveillance over Wi-Fi. The Application

When we think in to connect surveillance cameras, there is always the problem of costly video camera wiring. There is a cable length limit between the camera and the NAS, and this may pose deployment limitations in some site environments. The cable and the associated conduit costs could be quite significant in the total project cost. Long deployment time is another issue due to extensive conduit and cable construction work.

Additionally with High Definition cameras, the throughput requirement per camera can be very high, so a high throughput networks is required. We combine Mobotix megapixel optics and hi-res image generation with the best wireless solution for an incredible, high resolution video, extreme ruggedness and reliability, and outstanding cost-of-ownership and ease-of-installation!
The Altai Wireless Solution is an excellent alternative to solve the wiring problems of the video surveillance system. All IP cameras can be connected to a video storage and surveillance control system wirelessly through PTP or PTMP backhaul links.
The connection using PTP link supports up to 5 km, and the PTMP links can support up to 120 Mbps throughput.

The Altai wireless solution supports high throughput to the cameras and the built in QoS can provide traffic prioritization in case different types of traffic are running through the network.
Additionally, the wireless network can be extended and scaled to a wide range of different camera locations and different distances from the application server. Future relocation of surveillance cameras is made easy and no more reinvestment in cabling is required.

PTMP wireless connections up to 200 m are possible. This is particular useful for grouping a number of surveillance cameras into one backhaul connection in high camera density locations.

Using the high performance WiFi Bridge you can have PTP wireless connection with up to 40 Mbps throughput. Additionally, with the built-in QoS of the WiFi base station, the video traffic will be assigned priority over other traffics. The network stability can be improved in case there is network congestion.
Moreover constructing one wireless network can fulfill multipurpose business requirements. Besides serving the transport/access network of the video surveillance system, the same network can be used to provide WiFi Internet access and other applications like voice over IP.
The large coverage PTMP system can also be used for nomadic application within a range of 1.8 km NLOS per base station. You can build your network with access redundancy and seamless handoff. This feature not only provides redundancy protection, but also allows fast seamless handoff between base stations. This is essential for surveillance system at buses or trains which are moving at high speed.

Altai wireless systems supports tower, roof-top, pole and wall-mounted installation.
The A8 includes lightning and surge protection and a grounding point for earth connection in its design.

All these wireless devices provide all the latest technologies in security as defined in WiFi standards including MAC address, captive portal, 802.1x/EAP authentication platform, and WPA-TKIP and WPA2-AES encryption algorithm. Additionally all hardware platforms have MTBF of over 100,000 hours (~11.4 years).
These devices are weather-proof that comply with IP55 standard and they are also protected against corrosion. They can operate from -40 °C to 60 °C.

The German company MOBOTIX AG is known as the leading pioneer in network camera technology and its decentralized concept has made high-resolution video systems cost efficient. And the wireless Altai solution makes the deployment of Mobotix cameras simple and easy.
