Today both employers and employees benefit from having the ability to work from their home office at times. Do this securely with a high Quality of Service (QoS) and ensuring that 911 and 711 calls work without a complex infrastructure or an expensive monthly plan.
If the caller gets incapacitated during the call the Emergency Response centers will track the location of the call back to the company's headquarter instead of the employee’s home. Although DSL is an excellent internet carrier for a home and even small business office for even several concurrent call the quality of service will be severely deteriorated by what goes on over the DSL link to the home with the basic Telephone company’s home office free router equipment. If the employees receives an email during the call, is engaged in any type of online training, sends or receives files or someone else in the family up or downloads anything the voice quality can get very choppy and the call could even get dropped. In case the employee is using Cable as his internet access the problem is even more severe since cable usually has a very limited upstream channel and the smallest extra load will make phone calls very choppy. The inability to support infrastructure at employees’ home offices in a consistent manner has been an additional issue deterring rollouts to many teleworkers. A DSL line is the best type of IP Service for employees’ homes. DSL provides a highly reliable service, good upstream bandwidth and in most cases also provides one wired phone line. We recommend replacing the DSL router provided by the phone carrier by ABP's Intertex TeleWorker DSL unit (IX78). This solution provides a more secure and faster router than the original low cost router provided by the phone company and also gives the customer traffic shaping and 911, 711 call redirection. The ABP Intertex Teleworker unit (IX78) also provides an IP SEC VPN pass-through to employees laptops or desktop computers and can be configured by the IT department or the Reseller for a secure remote access to the employees home network for maintenance purpose if that is desired.
