Adding Application Intelligence to VoIP Installation with Eicon's Diva Server Platforms

Many of us think that VoIP is simply a new and different way to provide telecommunication services. While this is true, it also opens the door to up-selling other voice applications for the network. Each customer has variations in their business needs. The cross sections of verticals we work with are business centric and have specific requirements that can be addressed by adding intelligent applications to the solution set.

Eicon Networks and ABP have partnered to bring the best of both worlds to your doorstep. Installing and supporting VoIP infrastructures and services is not just an IP-PBX and IP Phones. If you look closer at your customer’s environment you will find that by adding additional applications their business will work more efficiently and their experience with VoIP exceed their expectations.

What Is A Universal-Multifunction Communications Platform?

Eicon’s Diva Server is a family of robust all-in-one communication adapters offering connectivity via Analog, ISDN Base Rate (BRI) and Primary Rate (PRI) as well as E1/T1 type of interfaces. They are scalable, flexible, and can handle any combination of ISDN, GSM, V.90 analog, fax, and voice calls - making them a perfect choice for building Remote Access, Fax, Unified Messaging, Voice and CTI solutions. On board Digital Signal Processors (DSPs) perform key real-time tasks that would normally cause an excessive burden on the host server. With one dedicated DSP per channel, the Diva Server adapters offer maximum performance. Ranging from 2 to 240 channels per system, Diva Server adapters offer the right scalability for all type of organizations looking for an easy-to-manage and cost-effective solution for their open communications environment.

Auto-attendants, Interactive Voice Response (IVR), Unified messaging and Conference Servers all play an important part in daily business. As a Reseller, your customers are not always cognizant of the options available to them. As your partner, we want to insure that you are up to date on technologies that can add to your revenue stream and profitability.

In this newsletter we want to focus on the first application, Auto-Attendants.

Diva Server adapters provide all the functionality needed for auto-attendant applications. It can:

  • Play audio prompts, either disk-based or integrated into the application
  • Stream audio, for example for music-on-hold
  • Process DTMF, and even detect human speech
  • Can trombone calls together (trombone transfer)
  • Supports different switch protocols, e.g. EuroISDN, Qsig to allow interoperation with installed legacy equipment.
  • Has a wide variety of switch-based call transfer protocols (blind; supervised; ECT/path replacement) allowing integration with exsiting PBXs
  • In addition, Diva Server is integrated into some of the world’s best known enhanced speech platforms such as Nuance Voice Platform, Envox Server or Microsoft Speech Server, allowing the auto-attendant to be VoiceXML or SALT based, and to use speech synthesis and automatic speech recognition technologies.
  • Diva Server has a powerful SDK that allows you to create your own auto-attendant functionality using VB, VB.NET, C or C++.  The SDK contains working samples (with source code) that can be used as building blocks in an auto-attendant.  For example the Interconnect sample in VB.NET shows how to trombone calls, and the VoiceExt2 sample (in C++) is a simple attendant that allows you to call in and navigate to a specific extension or divert to voicemail.
