Ranch Networks Product Family

Carrier Class products at Enterprise prices that consolidate network security, control, and management for VoIP

Ranch Networks offers a series of products that consolidate Security, Quality-of-Service control, and Management for VoIP (Voice-over-IP) while improving reliability and reducing costs. The architecture is very flexible and scalable to support many types of IP Telephony Service deployment.

RN devices dynamically adapt network resources and security based on application requests regardless of the VoIP signaling protocol used and even if the signaling or media traffic is encrypted. This allows VoIP Softswitches and IP PBXs to control network resources on a per-call basis, including per-call security and per-call bandwidth allocation. This approach can be consistently applied beyond Voice to also include Video, Instant Messaging, Presence, and other applications. The ability to perform multiple functions in one device and have these functions dynamically controlled by an IP PBX or Softswitch allows Ranch Networks to negate many of the network issues involved in delivering VoIP services to business and consumer customers - issues involving security, bandwidth allocation, QoS, NAT traversal, and network re-architecting.

Unlike Application Layer Gateway (ALG) or Session Border Controller (SBC) solutions, Ranch does not need to interpret signaling protocols or track call states. Instead it receives call set-up and teardown information directly from the Softswitch / IP PBX using an IETF-specified protocol (RFCs 3303 and 3304). If the Softswitch does not support this IETF protocol, other APIs supported by the Softswitch can be used. In either case, this approach avoids the security vulnerabilities inherent with competitive approaches.

When combining Asterisk with Ranch Networks series appliances, the solution provides unprecedented security and scalability to the open source telephony industry. This new device will revolutionize Asterisk by switching media at remote locations and eliminating the bottleneck of sending remote media back and forth for both remote IPBX users in large asterisk systems and hosted IPBX environments. This product will allow Asterisk developers to build systems that require very fast switching local nodes once they understand MIDCOM and use the embedded libraries it in their code. Developers can get started with a low cost Developer RN300 Unit. The Ranch Network unit also can be used with Asterisk to do QoS, multi homing and also replace a basic firewall and router for many small installations.
